Komal and Shahrukh’s Pakistani Wedding, Kentucky Wedding Photography by Caitlin Worth

This was my first introduction to the Pakistani style of weddings.  Try as I might to research the ceremony events, I would have been pretty overwhelmed during some parts of the day if Komal’s videographer, Ryan, hadn’t let me know what to expect during each part of the day.  He helped me out so much, I can’t thank him enough. Have a look at his video of their wedding.

The day started with quite a few hours of hair and makeup, and then Komal and Shahrukh were ready for their first look.  Then we raced off to a park for some portraits before the light left us. Then, it was back to the hotel where we did some more portraits while the guests arrived.

The ceremony itself was short, as they were already officially married the day before.  There was a lot of dancing involved in the ceremony.  Most of the family members did a dance as they were introduced.  There were several dances for the bride and groom, then Shahrukh joined in a dance to Komal.

The intricacy of detail and COLOR of this wedding really speaks to my heart.  Red is my favorite color, and red is the traditional color of a Pakistani wedding dress.  It took 6 months to make Komal’s dress.  Everyone who attended the wedding, whether they were family or friends, wore detailed and colorful clothing.

The love of dance was another thing I wish I saw at more weddings.  Dance was a big part of each event.  Soooo many people were on the dance floor for hours that night.  At most weddings I attend, people are good for a few dances, then the energy fizzles out.  Shahrukh kept calling for one more song!

When the dancing was over, the family gave their blessings to the couple.  Finally, there was a procession escorting Komal and Shahrukh from the dance floor to the elevator where they said goodbye.
